The Nancy was built as a private cargo vessel in 1789. During the war of 1812 she was called into service and played the important role as a British supply ship. The ship was referred to as "H.M.S. Nancy". The British chose the Nottawasaga River as their new supply route. The Americans sent forces into the area. Despite a courageous battle, the "Nancy" was set afire and sunk on this historic site.
